From Roads to Rails: A Journey Through Indore and Gujarat’s Coastal Charm
From Roads to Rails: A Journey Through Indore and Gujarat’s Coastal Charm. This June, my travel diary got a new chapter etched with unforgettable memories as I embarked on a two-week road trip from Lucknow to Indore, followed by a soulful sojourn through Gujarat. Every mile traveled was a story waiting to be told and here’s how it all unfolded.
Road to Indore: Discovering the Heart of Madhya Pradesh
Our journey began with the thrill of the open road. Traveling by car from Lucknow to Indore, we were greeted by lush landscapes, small towns and the comforting rhythm of the drive. Indore welcomed us with its bustling streets, a mix of tradition and modernity and, of course, its famous food.
Highlights of Indore Exploration
- Sarafa Bazaar: My evenings in Indore often ended here. The buzzing night food market was a paradise for food lovers. From garadu (fried yam) to jalebi and poha, every bite was a burst of flavour.
- Rajwada Palace: Standing tall in its grandeur, the palace took me back in time. Walking through its corridors, I felt connected to the history that shaped this city.
- Lal Bagh Palace: The regal charm of this palace left me in awe. Its architecture, intricate detailing and lush gardens were perfect for an afternoon stroll.
- Chappan Dukan: A street lined with 56 shops, all offering lip-smacking dishes – I couldn’t resist!
Indore’s vibrant culture, its warm people and the culinary extravaganza made my stay of 15 days an absolute delight. But my journey didn’t end here. It was time to seek spiritual solace.
Mahakaleshwar Temple: A Divine Encounter
From Indore, we drove to Ujjain, home to the renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple. Stepping into the temple felt like entering a realm of divine energy. The chants of mantras, the rhythmic ringing of bells and the sacred atmosphere were overwhelming. Attending the Bhasma Aarti early in the morning was the highlight of my visit. It was an experience that filled my heart with peace and gratitude.

Train to Veraval: A Journey to Gujarat’s Soul
After our soulful stop in Ujjain, we boarded a train to Veraval, Gujarat. The train journey itself was enchanting, as it took us through the heart of Gujarat. Watching the landscapes change with every passing hour, I felt a growing excitement for what lay ahead.
Somnath Temple: Serenity by the Sea
Reaching Veraval, our first destination was the Somnath Temple. The temple, standing majestically by the Arabian Sea, was a sight to behold. The soothing sound of waves complemented the spiritual aura of the temple. As I stood there, gazing at the endless expanse of the sea, I felt a profound connection to nature and divinity.
Dwarka: The Land of Lord Krishna
Our next destination was Dwarka, a place deeply rooted in mythological significance. Walking through the streets of this holy town, visiting the Dwarkadhish Temple, and witnessing the evening aarti were experiences that will stay with me forever. The Sudama Setu bridge and the serene Gomti Ghat added to the charm of Dwarka.
Exploring Gujarat’s Coastal Beauty
What made this trip truly special was my love for the sea. Gujarat’s coastal charm didn’t disappoint. We spent hours by the seashore, watching sunsets that painted the sky in hues of orange and pink. The beaches, with their golden sands and tranquil vibes, became my sanctuary.
A Culinary Adventure
No trip is complete without indulging in local food, and Gujarat offered a feast for the senses. From the tangy flavour of dhokla and khandvi to the sweetness of jalebi and shrikhand, every meal was a celebration. Street food stalls and local eateries introduced me to the authentic taste of Gujarat, leaving my taste buds craving more.

Reflections on the Journey
This trip was more than just a vacation; it was a medley of exploration, spirituality, and heartfelt moments. Indore taught me to embrace the vibrancy of life, Mahakaleshwar reminded me of the power of faith and Gujarat’s coastlines reconnected me with my love for the sea. As I sat by the sea one evening, soaking in the beauty, I reflected on the journey. It wasn’t just about ticking off destinations—it was about the experiences, the moments, and the bond with loved ones that these trips deepen. Indore and Gujarat weren’t just places on the map—they were a collection of memories etched into my soul forever.
As I look back, I feel immense gratitude for the experiences, the people I met, the stories I heard, and the memories I created. This journey was a reminder that life’s best moments often lie in the simple joys of exploring new places, savoring good food and immersing oneself in the beauty of the world. Travel, for me, is about rejuvenating your spirit, and this journey did exactly that. If you ever get the chance to plan a similar trip, trust me—you’ll carry the joy back with you, long after you’ve unpacked your bags.
Here’s to more adventures, more sunsets by the sea, and more stories waiting to be told! I can do better!!

Enjoyed examining this, very good stuff, appreciate it. “Whenever you want to marry someone, go have lunch with his ex-wife.” by Francis William Bourdillon.
Together with every thing that appears to be developing inside this subject matter, all your points of view tend to be fairly radical. Nevertheless, I appologize, because I do not subscribe to your whole strategy, all be it stimulating none the less. It looks to everybody that your comments are actually not entirely rationalized and in reality you are your self not even entirely certain of the point. In any case I did appreciate looking at it.
