Ginger is the amongst healthiest plant (Spices) on planet. It’s closely related to turmeric and cardamom. The underground part of the stem is the part commonly used as spice. It is called ginger or ginger root. Here are some Health Benefits Of Ginger that are supported by  researchers and doctors. Ginger can be used fresh, dried, powdered or in juice form. In many countries like Southeast Asia it is a very common ingredient in recipes. Nowadays it is also added in cosmetics and processed foods. Ginger is my personal favourite ingredient when it comes to making tea.

Health Benefits Of Ginger

  • Ginger has a long history of use in various forms of both traditional and alternative medicine. It contains Gingerol, means it has powerful medicinal properties. It’s been used to treat nausea and help fight the flu and common cold. Gingerol is the compound which is responsible for it’s medicinal properties.
  • Gingerol has anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant effects. Secondly, It may also reduce stress which is the outcome of excess amount of free radicals in the body.
  • Ginger is best known for highly effectiveness  against nausea. It helps to relieve vomiting in some people who are undergoing any surgery to medical treatment. However, it maybe best to treat morning sickness (pregnancy related nausea). Ginger is considered safe when it comes to just 1-1.5 grams of ginger intake to prevent various types of nausea.
  • It also play vital role when it comes to weight loss. Ginger supplementation significantly reduced body weight and has very positive effect on obesity and weight loss.
  • Osteoarthritis is very common health problem among the people. It is basically degeneration of the joints in body, leading to symptoms such as joint pain and morning stiffness. There are some studies done by researchers that ginger is effective against osteoarthritis.
  • Intake of ginger may reduce blood sugars in the body and improve heart rate. Basically, it have powerful anti – diabetic properties (yet to be confirmed).

In short – Ginger 

  • Is effective to treat chronic indigestion.
  • May reduce Menstrual pain. Generally, one of the traditional use of ginger is to reduce menstrual pain in the beginning of menstrual period.
  • High levels of bad cholesterol is linked to increased risk of heart disease. Above all, there are many evidence that support this statement that ginger can lead to significant reductions in bad cholesterol and blood triglyceride levels.
  • Moreover, It has anti-cancer properties. Gingerol, found in large amount in raw ginger. (appears to have protective effects).
  • Lastly, Fresh ginger may help to protect the respiratory system.

How to add ginger to your diet 

You can go through what you eat in a day and drink if you want to add ginger to your diet effectively. Here are few beverage recipes to try-

  1. Fresh ginger tea or Lemon-ginger tea.
  2. Add freshly chopped ginger to curries or stir-fries.
  3. Mixing a bit of ginger in smoothies.
  4. Baking pastries or cakes with ginger.
  5. Ginger pickle (Indian tangy achaars)
  6. Coconut- ginger chutney.
  7. Ginger, carrot, beetroot soup.
